Motorsports
Over the past few years we have been involved in the Rally scene. We have built and entered our own Proton 1500 Sport Rally car in local events such as Targa’s, Night Rallies and Night Navigation exercises. We are also in the process of building 2 more Rally cars of our own, a Proton 1.8 GTi and a Mk3 VW Golf GTi. The Golf GTi will become a fully MSA Logbooked Rally Car and be able to enter into such events as Rally GB.
The Proton GTi will mainly be set up under different rules and only used for Targa’s and Night Rallies. While the Proton 1500 Sport will have an engine upgrade and be turned into a 1.8 GTi.
We had the privilege of being asked to be Rally Support and Service for a Team which entered Rally GB in 2018 & 2019, also the same Team asked us to be the main Service crew for the Roger Albert Clark (RAC) Rally early in 2020. The RAC Rally was a gruelling 5 day event covering some 1500 road miles and over 300 Stage miles.
In mid 2019 I joined the BMMC (British Motorsport Marshals’ Club) with a view to giving back to the sport and helping. The BMMC is a purely voluntary organisation who help support all aspects of Motorsport, including such things as Formula 1, BTCC (British Touring Cars Championship) and Rally GB, to name a few. They also help the smaller club events which are held throughout the country. So far I have Marshalled race meetings at Anglesey Race Circuit, Donnington Park, Oulton Park and Silverstone. It is a fantastic way to get closer to the action and help keep Motorsport alive, because without the many hundreds if not thousands of dedicated volunteers, there would be NO Motorsport.
So I would say ‘If you like Motorsport’ and ‘Would like to get closer to the action for free’, as all Marshalls get free entry plus they receive 1 extra ticket for most events, then join the BMMC.
